Borrowing and re-borrowing in Southeast Asia: Complicating factors in historical reconstruction


Speakers of Tangsa-Nocte varieties have long had contact with speakers of Tai and Jinghpaw (Tibeto-Burman) varieties, resulting in both the transfer of material culture as well as linguistic exchanges. Through analysis of the remnants of these exchanges, the history of Tangsa-Nocte can be better understood as involving complex migration and contact.
